Böller + Brot

HomeMade

German film makers Sigrun Köhler and Wiltrud Baier have been in residence with us from mid April to mid summer 2007.
For their project HomeMade they collaborated with local primary school children, deliberately making junk food such as Smarties, Mars bars or crisps. The TV-style video series touches on questions of our modern food system such as the social and cultural dimensions of production, consumption, food risks and scares. Blending documentary and experimental video, HOMEMADE provides us with new perspectives of virtual TV-cooking and real life eating.

As part of the project we have organised a discussion chaired by: Joanna Blythman (author of 'Bad Food Britain). Other speakers were:  James King, farmer; Sir Hugh Pennington, advisor on food safety to the UN World Food Programme; Pam Rodway, Director of UK Slow Food Society; Margaret Thomson, teacher; Margaret Wild, local cook
