Welcome to Deveron Arts

Mihret Kebede has been exploring the journey from Ethiopia to Scotland by foot. She would have liked to walk the whole distance, but desert and closed borders made such a feat almost impossible. She needed enough people to accummulate 225 marathons (26 miles/42 km) to cover the 5850 miles from Addis Ababa to Huntly - each way.

With the help of over 500 people accumulating miles over the last three month and by taking part in the Slow Marathon in Huntly on the 17th of March or the Slow Marathon in Addis on the 18th of March Mihret has reached her goal. Thank you for helping her walk the way!

The Town is the Venue

Deveron Arts is a contemporary arts organisation based in Huntly a 4000 people strong market town in the north east of Scotland. Deveron Arts has no gallery, instead the town is the venue: studio, gallery, and stage for artists of all disciplines. We invite them to work and live here from all over the world. for this we use found spaces all over the town and its surrounding areas: supermarkets, pill boxes, churches, garages, to name just a few.
Engaging local people and community in topics of both local and global concern, Deveron Arts works through a 50/50 approach. This brings together artistic and social relationships in a global network that extends throughout and beyond the geographic boundaries of Huntly.
The artists' works form Deveron Arts' evolving town collection, which is placed in spaces around the town: at a local garage, an estate agent, a pig-farming co-op, the local library and museum, a hotel, the business centre.
Have a look at ARTocracy a book by Nuno Sacramento and Claudia Zeiske, which sums up Deveron Arts the town is the venue methodology in an easily digestible handbook. Or visit us inthe Brander in the town square.
